Quick question: What would you do if an expert copywriter called you out of the blue and asked if you’d work on a project with him?
It happened to me, while I was traveling down a winding rural road at 55 miles per hour.
If you remember, I recently explained how a freelancer could “go mobile” and never miss a beat on building his or her copywriting business.
Indeed, today’s technology frees us from the ties that bind us to a set location. Should a copywriter pine for the nomadic lifestyle, it’s entirely possible.
As for myself, I have no cravings to run hither and yon, building my business. Working from home is great.
But, sometimes I do work remotely. With the office phone forwarded to my mobile, I’m accessible almost everywhere.
That brings me back to the original question: What would you do if a top copywriter called you out of the blue and asked if you’d work on a project with him?
I’m driving home from Indiana, keeping an eye out for the occasional woodland creature and juggling a cup of hot coffee when my smartphone rings.
Coffee… or phone call?
Setting my cup in the holder, I reached for the phone.
Hesitantly, I answered, “Hello?”
On the other end, a vaguely familiar voice replied.
“Hi, Steve Maurer? I hope I haven’t caught you at an inconvenient time. I have a question to ask you.”
“By the way, this is Gordon…”
Thanking my lucky stars
I am so glad I answered that phone call. On the other end of the line was Gordon Graham, That White Paper Guy.
Now, if you’re not familiar with Gordon, he’s one of THE top white paper writers around.
His book — White Papers for Dummies — has a place on my library shelf and in my Kindle app.
He’s also written a fantastic program for AWAI for freelancers who want to break into B2B copywriting: Crash Course in B2B Content.
And he called me! Can you imagine?!
Well, here’s what he had to say…
