Reality Blog: My Report from the 2017 Bootcamp

November 8, 2017 | By Steve Maurer | 4 Comments

Reality Blog: My Report from the 2017 BootcampI recently attended AWAI’s 2017 FastTrack to Copywriting Success Bootcamp and Job Fair. This was my fourth Bootcamp in as many years.

And, honestly, this one cost me more than those I’ve attended in the past!

Okay, true confession time. There were some good reasons it cost more this time around. And, why it will in the future as well. Simply put…

I took my wife Mary!

She’s already told me I’m never going again… without her by my side.

So, I had to fork over the bucks for two plane tickets, the whole hotel room fee… and food for both of us. Whew! But, it was worth every penny.

And besides, my business has grown because of these events and it paid the expenses.

She needed a vacation from her seamstress work and from the grandkids. It’s been a long time since we took a real vacation that didn’t involve staying with family.

Of course, we actually did spend time with family… my copywriting kinfolk!

While she enjoyed sunning at the pool, walking on the beach… and spending some money in the myriad shops in Delray Beach, she did come to some of the events. She didn’t have to… she just wanted to be a part of what I do.

And she did get to know the people I’ve come to love and admire.

To say she was impressed would be an understatement. Everyone there treated her like she was royalty. The events she attended helped her understand what I do.

(Even though I’ll never understand seamstress stuff.)

So, in this installment of the Reality Blog, you’ll get more than just my opinions and takeaways from this very special live event.

She wanted me to share her thoughts with you as well.

Not as an outsider looking in. But, as someone who found out what all this Copywriting Bootcamp fervor was all about, even though not a copywriter herself.

If you have a spouse or significant other who’s not involved in your business, who doesn’t understand what the hubbub is all about, maybe this will help.

  • It was great seeing you again Steve and meeting Mary too. =)

As a member of my mastermind group says about Bootcamp, “It’s one of the few places I can go and talk about what I do and people understand me!” She’s so right.

I always come away with great ideas for my business, though it usually takes me a few weeks to digest everything and start creating plans to apply them to my business. But I almost always do and am the better for it.

Plus the sunshine and heat in Delray Beach is always a welcome change from the wind, rain, and cooler temperatures here in Toronto. =)

    • Hi, Julia.
It was great to see you too! And, Mary sends her love. I remember the first time we met at Bootcamp. If memory serves, I was finishing up with a client and you were starting one.
And, it turned out… they were the same company!
Wishing you the very best of success!

  • Steve, it was so good to meet you and Mary. I’m glad she enjoyed herself. I remember you telling me about her on one of my first coaching calls. I’m looking forward to next year!

  • I didn’t make it this year, but it’s definitely on my to-do list for 2018! I can’t wait to experience the warmth and camaraderie and business-building opportunities I’ve heard are all such a big part of Bootcamp! Everyone describes it as a not-to-be-missed event, almost like an AWAI rite of passage. And, if I’m lucky, I’ll get to blog about it as a Wealthy Web Writer Reality Blogger! (Pick me! Pick me! LOL)

Thanks for sharing your wife’s experience, Steve. It made me feel that much more excited to go next year! 🙂

    Happy Holidays!
