Hi everyone! It was quiet in the lobby this morning, but things will be hopping when we kick off the AWAI Bootcamp at 5:30 pm tonight!
The Delray Beach Marriott always has a sand sculpture in the lobby and I thought you’d like to see this year’s version. I’m always amazed at what they can do with sand!
I’ll be back with you at 5:30 when Katie Yeakle kicks off this year’s event.

Daily recap – Wednesday
We kicked off the Bootcamp with Andrew Davis. It was one of the best presentations I’ve ever seen – both technically and content-wise. The big takeaway I had is the need to create more tension in my copy. The keynote alone made the trip to Bootcamp worth it!
Daily recap – Thursday
It’s been a full day today with speaker after speaker giving the group actionable tips.
We started with Ilise Benun who talked about how powerful content marketing can be for attracting your ideal clients – if you use the right type of content.
Then we heard from Kevin Rogers who gave us the formula for a 60-second sales hook. You can get a free copy of his book here: 60secondsaleshook.com
Aaron DeHoog explained how important the big idea is. According to Aaron, the Big Compelling Idea must be something everyone has thought about. It must present a big, clear opportunity at the door OR a big, clear monster at the door.
Ryan Levesque, creator of the ASK method, said Facebook and Google drive almost 80% of traffic today – a huge consolidation. He explained how to use quizzes to separate your list into “buckets” that you can then customize copy and/or products for.
After lunch, Nick Usborne talked about the rise of short-form content like video titles, social media profiles, and chatbot copy.
Then Jen Stevens gave us tips on writing stronger copy. Her #1 tip was to use stronger verbs.
Ed Gandia wrapped up with tips for qualifying prospects. He shared his processes for inbound and outbound prospects. One big tip – Always Talk Money! Don’t avoid that conversation.
Tomorrow is another full day and Job Fair too!
Daily Recap – Friday
We started off the day with a panel discussion on the advantages of being a B2B copywriter with Steve Slaunwhite and Ed Gandia. There was a packed room of new copywriters anxious to hear more!
Then, we heard from Steve Slaunwhite on how to leverage your background to build a thriving B2B freelance copywriting business. No matter your background, there’s value!
Will Newman, Heather Robson, and I did a session on peer review and CUBA reviews. If you’re not connecting with your fellow copywriters and taking advantage of the peer review process, I recommend you do!
Job Fair was a blast as always and I enjoyed talking with so many B2B copywriters. If you haven’t been to a Job Fair before, you definitely want to put it on your calendar in the future!
Daily Recap – Saturday
The last day of Bootcamp always brings mixed emotions. We’re all ready to head back home and implement all we’ve learned, but it’s sad to leave all of our copywriting friends.
Of course, one of the highlights of today is announcing our B2B Writing Success spec challenge winner. This year, we have TWO winners: Erica Bartlett and Victoria Corriere! Congratulations to both of you!
And for the first time ever, we also have four Honorable Mentions: Julie Bryant, Maribeth Ditmars, Kathy Manweiler, and Mary Ann Vosika.
Thanks to everyone who submitted a spec and hope to see you May 14-17 2019 at the 2019 AWAI Copywriting Bootcamp and Job Fair!
