I have a confession. I’m not a spreadsheet whiz. And I stink at entering data in them and being consistent about updating a spreadsheet.

At least I was. After MANY abandoned attempts over the years, I think I’ve finally found a method I can stick with — primarily because it gives me instant feedback. Doesn’t everyone love instant feedback?

But before I share the methodology, I should back up a little and let you know the purpose behind the method and why it’s helpful.

Like many of you, I have a goal of increasing my freelance income this year. In fact, I want to double it (after taxes) which means I need to do a LOT of strategic work in landing new clients, writing faster, and tracking my income.

In the past, I’ve attempted to track my income by the month with mixed results. I’d make a list of clients and what I got paid but eventually, I’d forget about it because I was only doing it once a month.

However, a few months ago, I came across a new strategy.
