Reality Blog: How Much Editing Is Too Much?

As a B2B copywriter, you may sometimes experience “post-Send button remorse.”

If you’ve felt it before, then I’m sure you already know what I’m talking about…

You finish a copywriting project. You attach it to an email addressed to your client. Then, you hit ‘Send’…

At first, you feel alright. But — maybe an hour later, maybe a day later — a new idea occurs to you.

An idea for the project you just turned in. A small change in the wording, or an entirely new concept altogether. And, in your mind, this change would have made your copy so much better!

Then regret kicks in…

You start to wonder why you didn’t wait a little longer, and edit just one more time before you sent it. Maybe you even second-guess whether what you turned in is really that good after all.

Well, perhaps this doesn’t happen to you — but, I can assure you that it happens to me.

Here are three recent ways this scenario has played out… and what I learned from each experience about how to edit my copywriting projects.
