Stop Late Copywriting Payments by Charging Late Fees

Stop Late Copywriting Payments by Charging Late Fees

November 25, 2019 | By Julia Borgini | 1 Comment

Getting paid on time is one of the challenges of being a freelance B2B writer. You are running a business, so a late invoice payment can impact your cash flow. You know you’re not the cause of this delay, but it’s stressful to not know when, or if, you’re getting paid.

You don’t want to be the bad guy when payments are late, because you don’t want to jeopardize future projects. Still, it’s frustrating when consistent follow-up results in excuses like, “I sent it off to Accounting, I’m not sure what the holdup is!”, “We sent the check last week, you’re sure you haven’t gotten it?”, or my favorite, “We’re in a pay freeze because it’s the last week of the quarter.” (As if that last one is my fault!)

Chasing down payments is not pleasant, so it’s good news that there are professional ways to encourage your clients to pay on time.

  • I really liked this article which is valuable to any freelance type of business. My daughter is an Architectural Design sub contractor who has expressed this concern. I’ll pass this info on to her.
