When I started my freelance writing business, back around 2012, I felt overwhelmed. There were so many options! I had no writer’s website, no client samples, and NO idea how to find clients.
Maybe you can relate?
Fast-forward a few years and my business is in a very different place. I’ve transitioned from local networking events to a completely virtual business. I’ve moved from suburban Philadelphia to Mexico and I mostly work with B2B clients who have strong content marketing plans.
Not only is the type of work I’m doing more consistent, but I’m more confident. I know what to look for in a client and can be more strategic.
What hasn’t changed is the need to have a consistent marketing plan.
One of my favorite quotes is by author and marketer Jay Conrad Levinson. In his book, Guerilla Marketing on the Front Lines: 35 World-Class Strategies to Send Your Profits Soaring, he said, “Mediocre marketing with commitment works better than brilliant marketing without commitment.”
I love this quote because it takes some of the pressure off. Instead of second-guessing yourself and trying for “perfect,” just create a simple marketing framework and implement consistently.
No matter where you are in your copywriting business — if you’re just getting started or you’re more seasoned — this sample weekly marketing plan will give you ideas.
