It ’twas the week before Turkey Day,
as I toiled at my desk.
Comparing invoices and receipts,
for my Schedule C to look at its best.
I don’t want any red flags,
auditor’s attention, I don’t seek.
My excellent recordkeeping
pays out in spades this week.
With my expenses and profits,
arranged into neat little lists.
I have triple-checked them now
to be sure nothing’s missed.
Owing money to the IRS
can be a real pain in the neck.
I would much rather get a refund
than to have to write them a check.
Yes, fellow copywriters, the holiday season is almost here. And, as soon as the pine needles get swept up, and you put the lights away, tax season will be upon us again.
(Note: Not everyone needs to do a Schedule C, but it is critical you understand what information you do need to track and report out to meet tax requirements in your state or country.)
